Provisioning ecosystem services addressed by the theme are food, fuel and fibre. Moreover, the theme will reflect on the impact current and future food, fuel and fibre production have on ecosystem services. How can we meet the current and future demands for food, fuel and fibre sustainably and ethically?

This is closely related to the direct and indirect effects of agricultural expansion on carbon sequestration, climate regulation, energy, erosion, nutrient cycling, water and biodiversity.

Additionally, this theme address social and cultural aspects of trade-offs, synergies and human wellbeing of ecosystem services.
