Department of Social Sciences, Religion and Ethics

The Department of Social Sciences, Religion and Ethics, located at Hamar campus, consists of 28 employees, divided into two subject areas: 15 in social sciences and 13 in religion, philosophy and ethics.

The department provides teaching resources in the kindergarten programme as well as in the General Teacher Education programme, 1-year programmes in educational theory and practice, the 1-year programme in social sciences, Education for Diversity and Sustainable Living (EDSL) the Master in didactics of cultural and language subjects and the Master in Didactics of Science. In addition, the department has the academic responsibility for international practice in Namibia and provides courses and supervision on the PhD in Teaching and Teacher Education.

The academic community is involved in extensive research, publishing and dissemination activities and has two research groups: Global Awareness and Sustainability (GLOBE) and Formation, Values and Cultural Heritage.

The department has 8 professors/docent professors, 13 in other senior positions, 3 university lecturers and 4 doctoral research fellows.
