Types of course evaluations

Course evaluation may be carried out in several different ways. It may also be done as a midway evaluation and/or final evaluation. Below we give you some suggestions on how to do it.

It should be possible to summarize the evaluation afterwards in as many of the quality areas as possible:

  • Academic communities’ academic and pedagogical expertise
  • Start-up expertise and the start of studies
  • Teaching and study work
  • Students’ learning outcomes
  • Students’ learning environment
  • The programmes’ interaction with society and working life
  • Internationalisation
  • Development and management of the programmes of study

Dialogue meeting with the students based on pre-sent thematic points

Oral and situational, and students prepared.

Dialogue meeting with the students based on a pre-sent questionnaire

Oral, but less situational. The teacher can ask follow-up questions and target the dialogue.

Dialogue meeting with a group of students who have previously met with everyone or used a questionnaire

Anonymises student comments. Opens for in-depth discussion.

Dialogue meeting where each student can give an oral feedback

Gives everyone the opportunity. May be inhibitory.

Test / Examination in Canvas - multiple choice questions

Can be counted and analysed statistically, also over time. Does not anonymize students for the time being.

Test / Examination in Canvas - text question

Many will be able to give honest feedback. Does not anonymise students for the time being.

Quiz in Kahoot or other student response systems

Many can participate. Different types of questions. The situation and the results can be saved.

Word cloud in Mentimeter, or input in other student response systems

Only keywords. Can give a certain impression of some trends.

Open discussion in Canvas - collectively or in groups. With or without answer threads

Depending on whether or not you see other people's answers before you answer yourself. Will show a dialogue between the students on
