Together, Paul and Gina co-chair the UNESCO Chair in Democracy, Global Citizenship and Transformative Education. They are also part of the international advisory group in the Norwegian research project BRIDGES, that is looking at bridging the gaps between teacher training institutions and schools through interdisciplinary work.
Together with Heidi Biseth, professor in the Faculty of Humanities, Sports and Educational Science at the University of South-Eastern Norway and project leader of BRIDGES, they visited LUP this week to meet the research group Global Perspectives in Education (GLOBE) and UNESCO Chair holder on Education for Sustainable Lifestyles, Robert J. Didham.
During their first day they met GLOBE, where Heidi presented BRIDGES for the research group. This was followed by a presentation by Gina and Paul on: “Democracy, global citizenship and transformative education models, perspectives and project”.
Prisca Bruno Massao and Siri Wieberg Klausen presented their research on Critical Examination of Race and Racism in Teacher Education (CERiTE) before Jørgen Klein and Gerd Wiken presented their projects on teacher exchanges.
The following day Gina, Paul and Heidi met with UNESCO Chair holder Robert J. Didham at the Centre for Collaborative Learning for Sustainable Development to discuss the comparative research methodology used in the BRIDGES project and to consider appropriate approaches for publishing popular narratives on the projects' findings for targeted audience including teachers, school leaders, and policy makers.
They also discussed synergies between the UNESCO Chairs and potential meeting points for collaboration.
Gina and Paul will continue their travels to the north of Norway to visit the BRIDGES team at NORD University in Tromsø. We wish them all the best for their further travels.
