Degrees, diplomas, transcript of grades and student confirmation

From the spring of 2022, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences will issue digitally signed diplomas and Diploma Supplements for graduate studies. The diploma is made available in the Diploma registry, as well as in the document archive in Studentweb. Students without a Norwegian birth number will be sent a paper certificate.

Degrees

The University awards bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. Expected learning outcomes, content and requirements for the degrees are specified in the individual programme of study descriptions.

A freely-composed bachelor’s degree can be achieved by combining subjects and courses according to specific provisions.

Diplomas

Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences automatically issues diplomas with the accompanying Diploma Supplement to students who complete a degree programme, vocational education or a 1-year programme in educational theory and practice within the nominal length of study. The degree will be available in the Diploma registry as well as in the document aechive in Studentweb as soon it is issued and before it is sent by post.

Results from examinations that have been taken after the programme of study has been completed are not included in the diploma or the transcript of grades for the completed programme of study.

Students whose educational pathway has been delayed must order a diploma or transcript of grades themselves after completing their studies. E-mails ordering diplomas must be sent to the student administration at your faculty

Please note that if a student has completed a programme of study and appeals against the  determination of a course grade, diplomas must not be awarded until the appeal has been settled. If the diploma has been issued, any appeal against the determination of a grade must not be processed until the diploma has been withdrawn. See Section 9-1., subsection 8 of the Regulations relating to admission, studies and examinations at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences.

Digital diplomas for degrees

A digital diploma is a diploma in PDF with a digitally secured signature. The signature is valid as long as you do not change the document. Read more about digitally signed documentaries on the Diploma Registry and UNIT's website.

Digital certificates are available immediately after they are produced. Digital diplomas can be downloaded and shared with the digital signature built-in, or it can be shared directly from the Diploma Portal, which makes it possible for anyone with a higher education to share their results with employers and educational institutions in a simple and secure way.

If you print your certificate from the Diploma Registry (and do not share a link), the certificate will lose its authenticity.

You will receive an email when the degree is available in the Diploma Registry and in the document archive in Studentweb.

Students who previously (before the spring of 2022) have been issued a diploma on paper will not be able to obtain the diploma digitally. These will be able to retrieve their results in the Certificate Portal.

Students without a Norwegian social security number

Students without a Norwegian social security number will have their diploma on paper sent to the semester address registered in Studentweb. Remember to update your semester address in Studentweb within June 1st.!

Students with a Norwegian social security number who still need their diploma on paper

The digital certificate is considered an original document as it follows international standards.

However, there may be some institutions that do not accept digitally signed documents. You may also need a paper diploma as documentation for further studies or work abroad.

Please note that diplomas and Diploma Supplements are only made in one copy. Do not order a paper duplicate until the need arises.

If you need the duplicate before 1st of July, ordering must be made by 1st of June. If you order after this date, it may take longer before you receive the duplicate.

The Diploma registry

The Diploma registry is a digital service that has been developed on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research. The Diploma registry allows you to retrieve your higher education results and share them with educational institutions, potential employers and other relevant parties. The service is free to use.

Only results that are available digitally in the database of a Norwegian educational institution can be retrieved via the Diploma registry.

Loss of Diploma

Diplomas and transcripts of grades for completed programmes of study are valuable documents that are issued only once. Where it can be documented that the diploma or transcript of grades for the completed programme of study has been lost in a fire, been stolen or similar, a duplicate may be printed upon application and according to the stipulated fee. The fee is NOK 1000. For older diplomas that are not in the university’s database, the fee is NOK 1300. Confirmation of the achieved degree and transcript of grades are issued free of charge.
