Endnote in Word: Cite while you write
After installing EndNote, a tab will appear in Word giving you access to all the EndNote-functions in Word
Insert citation
- Place marker where you wish to insert a citation
- Go to Insert Citation
- Use the search field to find the correct reference from your library
- Click Insert
Edit citations
When using EndNote in Word it is important to not edit citations in text or references in the bibliography manually. The following is the correct approach:
- Click on the citation you wish to edit
- Go to Edit & Manage Citation(s)
- Make the desired changes, like:
- Adding text before or after the citation using the prefix or suffix fields
- Adding page numbers to a citation using the field for pages
- Change how a citation is displayed by choosing the field for format
Remove citations
To remove citations inserted in Word with EndNote we strongly advice against deleting them manually by delete/backspace. Use the following approach to remove unwanted citations:
- Click on the citation you wish to remove
- Go to Edit & Manage Citation(s)
- Remove the citation(s) from the menu on each citation
