SANORD conference will take place at INN University's campus in Hamar.

"SANORD is a network that connects higher education institutions in the Nordics and southern Africa. The network aims to contribute to collaboration in research and education," says Inn University's Rector Peer Jacob Svenkerud.

The last time the "Southern African-Nordic Centre" met for a conference was in Limpopo in South Africa. This time Hamar is the setting for the event.

Sustainability and justice

"The overall theme for this year's event is the role of higher education in contributing to just and sustainable futures. The starting point is the serious challenges the world is facing, and how academia can contribute to solutions," says Svenkerud.

The programme is divided between plenary events with all 300 participants present and more than 40 parallel sessions that delve deeper into various topics.

Zambia's Minister of Education, Hon. Douglas Syakalima, will participate and give the first keynote address in the conference. It will take place right after Rector Peer Jacob Svenkerud and Hamar Mayor Einar Busterud will open the conference on 20 September at 09:00.

Namibia's Secretary of State for Education will also be participating, along with a number of rectors and regional directors of education.

Relevant programme

"Many have wanted to contribute to this year's programme, and we have secured good presenters. We believe that we can offer the participants an exciting and professionally relevant programme. The high number of participants testifies that they view it the same way," says Peer Jacob Svenkerud.

On the opening day, official representatives of the SANORD institutions and authorities will gather for a round table conference at Hamar cultural centre for talks about the further development of the collaboration.

The participants are also invited to a social programme to get to know each other better outside the conference hall. In the evening, they can take part in a city walk in Hamar, a visit to Domkirkeodden, and a celebratory dinner at Hamar Sagbladfabrikk.
