The programme is based on a recognition that various research and scientific approaches are needed in order to understand complex relationships within the area that the programme is to cover. The interdisciplinary perspective is met in the concept of welfare, which includes physiological conditions, subjective perceptions about what constitutes a good life and more objective characteristics of the environment that are assumed to be important for one’s quality of life. The programme provides an understanding of how health science, public health science, sports science and social science interrelate with physiological, psychological, social, educational, organisational and social conditions.

Topics and research across subjects and disciplines play a key role, enabling a focus on individual, interpersonal and societal relationships, both individually and the interaction that takes place between them.

The aim of the educational programme is to develop knowledge about how health science, public health science, sports science and social science vary over time, relating to acute and permanent challenges in a life cycle perspective. Topics related to lifestyle-related disorders in children, adolescents, adults and the elderly are key. Public health and sports science with their physiological, psychological and social science courses also play a significant role. In addition, themes concerning structures, institutional frameworks and various forms of service design will have an important role to play. The programme focuses on preventive, function-promoting and health-promoting perspectives, as well as perspectives on care and treatment.
