Electric fencing is an effective measure to confine livestock to a specific area and to protect them from depredation. As compared to free-ranging animals, fenced livestock may experience more resource competition and higher parasite loads that may negatively affect body growth and reproduction.
Because fences hinder access for forestry, tourism and large game species, fences can generate conflicts of interest. Our main goals are to review the experiences of stakeholders with regard to depredation inside the enclosure, to measure livestock productivity of fenced versus unfenced animals and to study the potential effects of fences on the distribution of wild game species.
