Application procedure

After being nominated by your home institution, you have to apply for your exchange. More information is provided on this page.

How to apply for an exchange at INN University

Please follow the step-by-step guide to complete your application for exchange.

1. Check your course options

View our course overview and check your options. Be aware of the following:

  • You can take courses at ONE campus only.
  • Courses from different disciplines and faculties may be mixed and combined within the same campus.
  • Most courses are offered in the fall or spring semester. It is not possible to take a spring semester course in the fall and vice versa.
  • Bachelor students are not eligible to take master courses at INN University unless they have completed 180 ECTS and are in their fourth year.
  • Some courses have prerequisites.
  • If you are proficient in Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish, you can take courses in Norwegian. For detailed information, contact the coordinator at the campus of study.

NB: Please get in touch with your home university's exchange coordinator to determine your eligibility for exchange studies at INN University.

2. Be nominated by your home institution

All exchange students need to be nominated by their home institutions before the given deadline:

  • 15 April for the fall semester (August-December)
  • 01 October for the spring semester (January-June)

Students nominated for one year will be nominated within the deadline of the first semester at INN University.

NB: Some programs may have diverging deadlines. Information will be provided after nomination.

Free movers

We do not require nominations for free movers. Please skip step 2. However, only a few programmes are open for free movers.

3. Apply for the exchange

Once we have received the nomination, the International Coordinator at the INN Univeristy campus will provide the application and semester information by e-mail. Online application links can be found above.

Make sure to apply within the following deadline to the designated Campus:

  • 01 May for the following fall semester
  • 15 October for the following spring semester

Students applying for two semesters must apply within the deadline of their first planned semester. 

Please note that applying for courses taught at different campuses is not possible due to the varying travelling distance between them, ranging from approximately 30 to 150 km.

4. Await your Admission e-mail

Admission is granted within two weeks of the application deadline. A relevant departmental/international coordinator at INN University will receive the submitted Learning Agreement (LA)/Online Learning Agreement (OLA) for approval.

The admission e-mail contains detailed information on the housing offer, residence permit application, and Buddy programme (campus-specific). Other needed information may also be provided. Make sure to forward the necessary documents to the home institution.

5. Apply for accommodation

The offer differs between campuses. Our webpage provides detailed information on the accommodation offer.

Students can choose between student housing (student dorms/studio flats) or housing through the private market. Nominated students will receive detailed information about the application process.

6. Order a study permit (non-EU/EEA citizens)

Upon receiving the Admission Letter, students needing a residence (study) permit must apply to the UDI. This applies to citizens from outside the EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA citizens studying in the EU/EEA. Please be aware of the following:

  • UDI charges a non-refundable application fee of 5900 NOK.
  • The passport must be valid for six months beyond the planned stay.
  • To have your application processed in time for the start of the semester, submit your application within the latest dates:
    • 01 July for studies in the fall semester
    • 01 December for studies in the spring semester

Deposit account

Non-EU/EEA citizens from our partners outside of Europe (not on grants as Erasmus+/EEA/Norway grant) must deposit the requested money into a Norwegian bank account to receive the financial confirmation needed for their study permit application.

Admitted students will receive detailed information on the deposit account by e-mail.

7. Order the necessary insurance

All international exchange students must have valid health insurance before arriving at INN University. The insurance can be from their home institution or a national or private health insurance provider. Travel insurance is highly recommended. INN University does not offer insurance.

8. Plan your arrival
