About the Programme

The course builds on the understanding that health, care and quality of life are topics that are explored in a cross-disciplinary field of research where diverse research methods, theories and perspectives are taken as vantage points. The focus is on aspects that can promote as well as hinder health and quality of life. In the course, we also discuss inequalities in health, care and quality of life in a global perspective and include examples of processes and methods aimed at improving people’s health and the health services they receive. The course will enable students to identify and explore complex ethical problems and to participate in professional debate on the course topics.

The course combines lectures, seminars, groupwork, student presentations and self-study. The students shall reflect on their own research project in view of the topics explored during the course. By doing so, the students will obtain a deeper understanding of the problems, methods, and knowledge that develops within their own project.

The course ends with an individual home-based exam. The exam is to write an essay where the students’ own project is discussed in view of different perspectives on health, care and quality of life.
