About the Programme

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) provides broad competence in economics and management subjects, and specialised competence in Business Analytics.

Both private and public organisations must make decisions to achieve their goals, and these decisions often have to be made under uncertainty. Many companies make great efforts to collect data and carry out advanced analyses of their trends and their environment. The challenge is to adapt to the big amounts of data and disruptive technologies and take advantage of these by changing business models and organisational processes.

The MBA focuses on how large amounts of data, combined with powerful and sophisticated analysis tools and analysis skills, can provide more accurate predictions in support of well-founded decisions for business operations.

You will gain specialised expertise in analysing big data to create insights used for decision-making support, under uncertainty. In this way, the company will be able to improve the service offering and create competitive advantages in the market.

The study has an international focus with English as the language of instruction.
The flow of information and companies interaction and competitive situation is affected by the golabal economy. Therefore, the study has an international focus where all communication and teaching takes place in English. This ensures that students, in addition to having an understanding of Norwegian companies, also have the competence to see interaction, competition and available information in an international context.

The Master in Economics and Management - Master of Business Administration, also offered with the main profiles digital management and business development, marketing management and financial management.

Job opportunities

Upon successful completion of the programme you will be awarded the degree Master in Economics and Management, with the title Master of Business Administration.

You will be able to enter a wide range of challenging positions in the service sector, in industry and in the public sector, as a manager, specialist or consultant. You qualify for positions where a deep understanding of how to utilise the increasing amount of data is required, in order to improve the decision-making processes in the company.

Combined with knowledge and skills in analysis, technical insight and understanding of digital framework conditions, the study provides opportunities for a varied career.

Specific examples of positions and functions that you qualify for are: Chief Analytical Officer or Digital Analyst in small and medium sized companies, head of technology and business analysis in industry or service business, market analyst or product strategy and business developer, and advisor / consultant in public and private sector.

The master's programme is firmly rooted in research based knowledge and can qualify for a PhD position and a career as a researcher.

There is a requirement of 50% attendance of all course-lectured teaching for both full-time and part-time students.

The admission requirement is a bachelor's degree in financial administration or final education. The education must satisfy the subject requirements corresponding to the Bachelor of Economics and Administration / Bachelor of Economics and Management, from the recommended plan from the National Council for Economic and Administrative Education (NRØA). This means that you must have at least 120 credits in economics-administrative subjects that must cover special subject requirements within the following intervals:

  • Business Administration subjects (30 - 45 credits): financial accounting, financial management, investment and financing
  • Administrative subjects (30 - 45 credits): marketing, organization and management, enterprise strategy
  • Socio-economics subjects (15 - 30 credits): macroeconomics, microeconomics
  • Methodology (20 - 30 credits): mathematics for economists, statistics for economists, social science method
  • Ethics, social responsibility and sustainability (7.5 - 15 credits)

The average grade must be C or better.

Previous educations that are built on recommended plans from NRØA still cover the admission requirement.

Applicants must document their proficiency in English at a certain level.

The English requirement applies to everyone except applicants who have completed higher education in the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia or the Nordic countries, who do not need to document language skills. Up to 50% of the places at the programme are reserved for Norwegian applicants.

How much does it cost?

Students from countries outside the EU/EEA/EFTA are required to pay tuition fees.

The tuition fee for Master of Science in Business Administration - major Business Analytics is NOK 175 000 per year.

Applicants from outside the EU/EEA are required to provide proof of funding as part of their application.

This does not apply to students from the EU/EEA/EFTA.

Student exchange

Full-time students can go on exchange in the 3rd semester, with the option of extending the exchange in the 4th semester. It will also be possible to take a single elective as an exchange student in the form of a summer course.

Part-time students can take a single course at an international partner institution that offers summer courses, or take one or more master courses with group-based teaching at the School of Business, Economics and Law at Karlstad University. It will also be possible to take an entire semester abroad for part-time students, but it may then be appropriate to study full-time while on an exchange.

Courses selected at a partner institution must be pre-approved prior to the exchange by the study programme leader in accordance with the overall learning outcome of the MBA.

Further education opportunities

The study provides a basis for admission to the PhD program Innovation in service provision - public and private (INTOP) at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciencesat Høgskolen i Innlandet.

You will also be able to apply for admission to a PhD education in business administration / economics and administration at other Norwegian and foreign universities and colleges. Further requirements for admission to a PhD program are decided by the individual institution that provides the PhD program.
