About the Programme

The programme is for people of foreign background wanting to acquire Norwegian skills to qualify for admission to higher education and/or the labour market. This includes exchange students, students with Norwegian as a second language who want to improve their Norwegian skills and employees in higher education with foreign background, among others.

In this programme, mastering the practical language is combined with insight into the society and culture of present-day Norway. You do not need to know Norwegian beforehand, we start from scratch. However, you will have to document your Higher Education Entrance Qualification, including English language proficiency.

Practical information

Teaching takes place within normal working hours twice a week at Campus Hamar.

The programme is composed of four courses, each carrying 15 ECTS and ending with an exam. Together, courses 3 and 4 will be equivalent to Trinn 3 (B2). Direct admission to level 2 or 3 will be possible upon documentation of a certain level in Norwegian. 

Who is the programme for?

Students must either be EU/EEA-citizens, or already a resident in Norway. Students from outside the EU/EEA-countries must document a valid resident permit in Norway for the entire period of study.

Valerii Zolotov is a former student of the Norwegian Language and Culture for International Students programme. He is now studying for a BA at INN University. - The study programme is a perfect combination of different teaching methodes, and includes various types of information sources.

Application deadline and admission

April 15, 2024 (applicants from the EU/EEA and the Nordic countries).

Applicants need to meet the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification, including English language proficiency requirements. Applicants are exempted from Norwegian language proficiency requirements.

Applicants must either be EU/EEA-citizens, or already be residents in Norway.

Applicants from outside the EU/EEA-countries must document valid resident permits in Norway for the entire period of study.

How much does it cost?

No tuition, but a semester fee is required
