Norwegian Language course for beginners is a 7,5 ECTS course that can be combined with all English-taught courses at Campus Lillehammer. It will be offered in the following fall and spring semesters.

Start of studies

An Orientation Week is arranged in the first week of the semester. Lectures are expected to begin in the following week for both the fall and spring semesters.

About the course

The course is offered in the fall and spring semesters but is not a follow-up course. Therefore, students staying for two semesters can choose to apply for this course in the fall or the spring semester. It is not possible to enrol for both semesters.

It provides basic training in Norwegian grammar and pronunciation; words and expressions related to being able to tell about yourself and ask others about the same thing; words and expressions related to everyday situations. Students completing the course will have a basic knowledge of Norwegian at the A1 level.

Lectures will be held for two hours twice per week. A 2-hour written exam finalizes the course.

Course material (curriculum)

Accepted students will be provided with the needed curriculum during the first lecture.

Course schedules

The course schedule will be provided to accepted students after the following dates:

  • 01 December for the following spring semester.
    • The course will usually begin in late August/early September, with the final exam in early December.

Please be aware that lectures are usually held twice a week for approximately 14 weeks, with lecture hours from 16:15 to 18:00 (4:15 to 6:00 pm) or later in the afternoon.

Number of spots

This course has a maximum of 40 spots.

A selection will be made if there are more applicants than spots on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students who do not receive a spot will be offered to be on a waiting list. However, there is no guarantee that students on a waiting list will get admitted.

Required prerequisites

None. This course is open to students studying at the bachelor's and master's levels.

Possible course combinations

This course can be combined with all English-taught courses at Campus Lillehammer. Be aware that other courses may have limitations to other combinations.

Application deadline and admission

The course is available only for exchange students coming from our partner institutions. Contact the International Office/Department at your home institution to find out if you are eligible for exchange studies at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN University). Please notice that applications can be submitted for one campus only.
