Physical Activity and Public Health
The overall focus is to give the PhD candidates an indepth knowledge of the importance of physical activity in today's society, an understanding of the connections between physical activity and the population's health, as well as knowledge of physical activity and public health related to their own research project.

About the Programme
The course "Physical activity and public health" will cover a wide range of topics, both at individual, group, and community level. The PhD candidates will learn about the diversity of physical activity in different populations and physical activity from a public health perspective. The lectures will cover everything from physical, biological and cultural perspectives of physical activity. Evidence-based research on physical activity in relation to prevention, strengthening and treatment of different population groups will be presented. In addition, the PhD candidates will learn about how different mechanisms of physical activity affect our physical, mental and social health. The interrelationship between physical activity and health, and the interaction between people and surroundings will be presented, as well as how we should facilitate an active lifestyle.
The subject runs over one week. It contains lectures and seminars with student presentations, and the lectures will be given in Norwegian or English. The PhD candidates must also complete a student presentation in plenar. The exam is conducted as an individual written scientific essay. Attendance at teaching is mandatory.

Compulsory requirements:
All courses have compulsory requirements that must be approved before an exam can be taken. Because of this, it is important that you read the subject description thoroughly. There is a requirement of 80% attendance in order to take the exam. The requirement for presence applies regardless of the reason for the absence.

Admission requirements:
Applicants must have a MA-degree (120 ECTS), or being registered as a PhD-student.
The course has limited intake capasity, and priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included, or for employees at higher education institutes.
