The 6th Commodity Markets Winter Workshop

The aim of the workshop is to present and discuss high-quality research in all areas of finance and economics related to commodity markets in a stimulating and relaxed atmosphere.

The 6th Commodity Markets Winter Workshop will take place at the Skeikampen Skiresort near Lillehammer, Norway. It follows on very successful events in Lillehammer (2017), Nantes (2018), Hannover (2019), Quebec City (2020) an St. Johann im Pongau (2022). Skeikampen Skiresort offers excellent skiing facilities for both Alpine and Cross-Country skiing as well as possibilities for many other winter activities. The conference hotel is within walking distance of the main slopes and tracks.

Topics

We welcome submissions from all areas of economics and finance related to commodity markets, including:

  • Micro & macroeconomic analysis of commodity markets
  • Portfolio allocation/optimization including commodities
  • Pricing, hedging, and risk analysis of commodity derivatives and derivatives portfolios
  • Commodities business analytics
  • Financialization of commodity markets
  • The microstructure of commodity markets
  • Corporate finance and risk management related to commodity markets
  • Econometric/statistical analysis of commodity markets
  • Decision models (OR/MS models) applied to the commodity sector
  • Real option analysis investigating commodity project investment and production decisions
  • Financial market analysis (risk factor models etc.) for commodity markets
  • Managerial accounting & economics for commodity related corporations
  • Global and regional trade of commodities
  • The role of commodity production and consumption for developing countries

Commodity markets in this context include the entire range of commodities, i.e. energy (including electricity and renewables), metals, agricultural products and fish, and also related markets such as markets for shipping and transportation services, emission quotas and weather derivatives.

Paper selection and submission procedure

The deadline for submissions of papers and extended abstracts is January 10th, 2023. Submission of full papers is preferred. Abstracts/papers must be in pdf format and contain details of all contributing authors and need to be sent via email to winterworkshops@inn.no.

Submission will be considered on a rolling basis and authors will be notified about acceptance  following a short review period. The deadline for full registration is January 24th 2023.

Venue & accomodation

The workshop will take place at Thon Hotel Skeikampen, 45 km north of Lillehammer, Norway.

Prices per night per person at the Thon Hotel Skeikampen:

Single room: NOK 1.545
Double room: NOK 1.245

Rooms have been booked for the conference days 8th and 9th of March. Make your hotel registration through the workshop registration. You will pay for the room at check out directly to the hotel. If you want to add extra nights before or after the workshop and stay at the Thon Hotel Skeikampen, please contact daina.januskiene@olavthon.no

 

Travel to the workshop

The closest Airport is Oslo and conference participants are advised to take the direct train from the airport terminal to Lillehammer (approx. 1 hour 40 min).

We have set up busses that correspond both with trains and the start and end of the workshop at the following hours:

To Skeikampen the 8th of March at 17.00

Correspond with;
- train from Oslo/Oslo Airport arriving Lillehammer 16.40
- train from Trondheim arriving Lillehammer 16.52

Local busses departs from Lillehammer to Skeikampen at 09.15, 11:15 and 15:15 (duration is 33 minutes)

From Skeikampen the 10th of March at 14.00

Correspond with;
- train to Oslo/Oslo Airport departing Lillehammer 15.03 or 15.09
- train to Trondheim departing Lillehammer at 16.13

Participation Fee

The participation fee is Norwegian kroner (NOK) 2500. Full-time PhD students is NOK 1500. This includes conference catering and conference lunch/dinner. Accommodation (see above) will be charged separately.

 

Registration

Please register at our online two-stage registration, which includes online payment. Registration deadline is February 7.


Cancellation policy

All cancellations must be sent to winterworkshops@inn.no no later than February 22nd. Cancellations until this date will be refunded, minus a processing fee of NOK 500,- Cancellation after February 22nd or no-show at the workshop will not be refunded.
