Short description

Dr. Ann-Cathrin Faldet is an Associate Professor of Special Education. Faldet holds both a master's degree and a doctorate from the University of Oslo, where she defended her thesis on the topic 'girls, gangs, and violence' in 2013. Since 2014, she has been employed at HINN.

Her research interests focus on children and adolescents who face challenges and live in high-risk environments. She emphasizes the importance of children's voices in research and addresses themes such as inclusion and overcoming learning barriers. Her theoretical framework is based on risk and protective factors, the actor perspective, and sociocultural theory. Currently, Faldet is involved in a Nordic research collaboration on violence in schools and teachers' well-being. Additionally, Faldet is connected to research exploring inclusive practices through simulation and the use of VR, where Vygotsky's theories of learning and development have been central.

Faldet has extensive experience working with youth who drop out of school and was for many years the project manager for a crime prevention initiative in the Municipality of Oslo. Her teaching experience ranges from youth and secondary education to teaching pedagogical subjects in teacher education programs, special education, and adapted education at the master's and doctoral levels. She is also a supervisor for master and phd students.

Faldet currently leads the research group Studies in Profession, Learning, and Policy (SPLP).
