Short description

Knut Øystein Høvik is Associate Professor in English Literature, Culture and Didactics. He has a Master's degree in English from the University of Bergen (2000). 

Høvik teaches in all study programmes where English is involved: Initial Teacher Education for Years 1-7, 5-10 and 8-13, the Master's programne in Culture, Language, and Didactics, English one-year course and in-service programmes for teachers. 

Høvik's research interest is in the field of English subject didactics, and particularly the relationship between cultural studies and the English subject. He is also interested in the historical development of the subject and curriculum studies. Høvik is also involved in different internationalisation projects. 

Høvik has previously been the head of the study programmes for Initial Teacher Education for Years 1-7 and 5-10. He has also been deputy chair for the National Academic Council for English Studies. He is currently board member for the Norwegian Study Centre at the University of York. He is also chair for the Norwegian Society for English Studies. In addition, he is Great Norwegian Encyclopaedia’s (Store norske leksikon) area expert on British and Irish history.

In 2023 Høvik was awarded the status of Excellent Teaching Practitioner at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences.
