Short description

Marianne Eek is an associate professor in Norwegian at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences. In May 2021 she defended her dissertation Multilingual assistants, investment and social justice - A study of the use of multilingual assistants in Norwegian language teaching for adult newcomers with limited formal schooling. She have previously worked as a teacher in primary school, and with second language teaching, literacy and numeracy for adult immigrants.

Her research interests are in the fields of second language learning and sociolinguistics, with a focus on multilingualism and language ideology, social justice in education, participant perspectives in second language learning, identity and investment in second language learning, the use of the first language in second language learning, learning of school subjects in the second language, employment programs in second language teaching courses for adult newcomers and literacy and numeracy in the context of second language learning. She is a member of the research group Language Didactics in Multilingual Contexts at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences.
