Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the EU's program for education, training, youth and sport. It is the world's largest education programme, with a budget of 26.5 billion Euros for the period 2021-2027.

Through the measure KA131 (European mobility in higher education) Erasmus+ grants apply to the following activities: studies or practical placement mobility for students and employee mobility.

Travel destinations

Students can travel to one of our partners in the EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey. Those who wish to travel to institutions other than our partners will not receive an Erasmus+ grant.

Stipend opportunities

As a student

During a study stay through Erasmus+, you retain the right to loans and grants from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (if applicable). For study-related exchanges to our Erasmus+ partners (only in Norwegian), and extra stipend of up to 410-460 Euro per month is given, depending on where you travel. For practical placement-related exchange, this amount is 560-610 Euro per month. The stipend is in addition to the support from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund, and does not need to be repaid.

Rates:

  • 460 Euro per month for studies, 610 Euro per month for practical placements: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Sweden.
  • 410 Euro per month for studies, 550 Euro per month for practictical placements: other program countries.

Erasmus+ also offers additional grants for students with "fewer opportunities" (250 Euro per month) and a top-up for green travel (50 Euro). To get more information, contact the international coordinator at your campus.

As an employee

Through Erasmus+, HINN employees can travel on exchange stays to teach or receive training. This applies to both academic staff and staff in technical-administrative positions. For more information and rates for employee mobility, click here.

As a PhD candidate

PhD candidates can travel either as employees or with student status (long- og short-term stay). PhD "students" traveling on short-term mobility receive 70 Euro per day from day 1 to 14, and 50 Euro per day from day 15 to 30 (note that short term mobility has to be minimum 5 days). One travel day before and one travel day after the activity can also be covered. For long-term stays, see the rules for studies and practical placements above.

Payment of the scholarship

Please note! When you travel with student status, you do not submit travel expenses after your stay abroad. The scholarship will be paid directly to your account after the mobility. In order to receive the scholarship you must:

  • Submit the Arrival Form (signed by a representative from the partner institution).
  • Submit the mandatory Erasmus+ report

For stays exceeding 30 days, 85% of the scholarship will be paid upon confirmed arrival and the remaining 15% when your stay has been completed and you have submitted the Erasmus+ report). The scholarship should pay for travel and living expenses. PLEASE NOTE: There is no guarantee that the Erasmus+ stipend will cover all costs. I you feel any discrepancy between the costs of travel and subsistency and the stipend amount should be covered, this is something you need to clear with your institute/faculty before going on exchange. The Erasmus+ grant can be combined with any other grants/funds you may have available to support your stay abroad (project funds, operating funds linked to your phd position, etc.).

For mobilities outside of the EU, submit the application form to the international office before 1 November 2023. For mobilities in the EU, apply with the same form well ahead of your planned mobility.

Duration

  • Studies/practical placements: 2 to 12 months at each level of study (bachelor, master, PhD).
  • Staff (teaching or training): 2 days to 2 months.
  • PhD candidates (short-term mobility): 5 to 30 days.

As an Erasmus student, you can choose from over 50 of HINN's partner institutions in Europe. You will not have to pay school fees, and will receive an Erasmus grant. If you meet the requirements and already receive support from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen), you will receive the Erasmus grant in addition to this.
